The comedians advancing to Friday’s stand-up competition finals at the Great American Comedy Festival are Kermet Apio, Joe Larson and . . .
And . . .
And . . .
This isn’t a trick to try to get you to keep reading. Call it more a trick of Mother Nature.
Wednesday evening’s tornado warning in Norfolk interrupted the 8:30 p.m. round of the stand-up competition just before the final comic — Jon Fisch of New York City — was scheduled to perform.
Five others — Tim Harmston of Minneapolis, Chris Voth of Denver, Andy Woodhull of Chicago and Rodger Lizaola of Seattle — had completed their sets, although the warning sirens began to sound just as Lizaolo was finishing up.
When the tornado warning was extended, the decision was made to call off the rest of the performance and resume the competition Thursday evening. Fisch will perform during the Thursday 6:30 p.m. show but be judged against the five other comedians from the Wednesday late show.
Those attending the 8:30 p.m. performance on Wednesday will be allowed to attend the Thursday 6:30 p.m. show for free if they bring their tickets from Wednesday with them Thursday night.
In the earlier performance Wednesday night, a strong lineup of comedians resulted in Apio and Larson becoming the first two of eight comics to advance to the stand-up competition finals set for 7 p.m. Friday at the Johnny Carson Theatre. Eddie Brill will serve as host for that show.
Tickets remain available at www.greatamericancomedyfestival.com or by contacting the Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau at 371-2932.
